This Week…

AVENGERS VARIANTS!

And no I don’t mean covers, I mean a variation
on the AVENGERS! And this time they’re
children! Well the heroes in YOUNG
AVENGERS #1 may be teenagers, but in my
mind they’re still too old to be running round playing dress up and too young to be fighting bad guys! Leave the dress up to the adults with issues and the fighting to the ones with powers! You gotta admit they look pretty though (I mean artwork-wise not playing dress up) that Jim Cheungs certainly the closest thing you’d get to a young gun this side of Lou Diamond Phillips. I truly have no idea what that last sentence means but anyway, JIM CHEUNG’s art! The guy who writes the OC and Sex and the City’s words! (Don’t forget Party Of Five!) How can it fail!

Quite blatantly the best comic at the moment is our other AVENGERS variant, THE ULTIMATES! Vol. 2 kicks so much ass, they’ve had to cancel donkey rides on Brighton Beach! I mean, the whole trial of the HULK thing is just genius! Handled with almost as much style as the TV movie – Trial Of The Incredible Hulk‚ this could wind up being better than the first volume! The only thing I care more about than the verdict is seeing THOR flip out like a proper headcase! Although, going back to the verdict, I’d let the HULK off for a) trying to eat Freddie Prinze Jr and b) the single funniest moment in comics in years when he was reported to have stolen the – pants of a fat corpse‚! Genius! So folks, go buy ULTIMATES 2 #3 and join the fight to free the – Fat Pants one‚! Doesn’t have the same ring as Guildford Four does it…

Completely slipping in under the radar when it should have been afforded at least the buzz that War Games had, BATMAN: THE MAN WHO LAUGHS looks to be a fine example of BATS done right! Telling the story surrounding BATMAN and THE JOKERS first meeting, this prestige one shot seems to follow on from the Red Hood section in Alan Moore’s – Killing Joke‚ and is not only drawn by the awesome Doug Mahnke but written by the wonderful Ed Brubaker (who Toby seems
to think is the old man from Reservoir
Dogs… Strange) (Hey! Bunker-Brubaker
…Simple mistake!)

THE BOLLY GREEN GIANT!

Bollywood dreams indeed! Reeling from
the awesomeness that was WE3 and the
sheer craziness of the SEAGUY trade, can we,
the general public, consider ourselves ready for another quite insane sounding Grant Morrison mini-series? Well, I say we meet it head-on anyway and if it, quite possibly, drives us
insane at least Philip Bond’s artwork is
awesome so it’ll be a pretty road to
madness. The insanity in question, Ladies
and Gents, is VIMANARAMA #1 (OF 3).
Morrison’s take on bollywood romance and
gods and stuff… Should be somewhat
interesting!

That’s the bolly out of the way so lets get on
with the giant, and I wasn’t lying when I said
its green, bright green, like creamy jade or a rookie first experiencing NAM! And you know
what else? Its this weeks LESS THAN IT
SHOULD COST SPECIAL OFFER! That’s right,
this week the usually £1.95 INCREDIBLE HULK
#78 is yours or only ONE PUND FIFTY! Why? Because we think you should be reading it dammit! Peter Davids the man when it comes to the HULK so give it a go, its better than a poke in the eye with a crab! Which incidentally, my
five year old nephew threatened to do to me the other day…

THE PLOT THICKENS…

The plot does indeed thicken this week,
thicken like broth and Cap’s just a big old chunk
of potato right in the middle of the intrigue soup! CAPTAIN AMERICA #3 is out this week and I
want answers!!

This is it! The penultimate issue of perhaps the best SPIDEY story since… well… the last good one! MARVEL KNIGHTS SPIDER-MAN #11! Everything has been building up this moment! Where’s Aunt May? Where‚s Mary Jane? Why is the Green Goblin standing on the front cover like he’s with Spidey and Black Cat? Will I be able to handle reading it without wetting myself? Who knows any of these answers?!?

Penultimate is the buzzword this week and THE PUNISHER #17 is no exception! Building up to a climactic fight with a crazy naked midget isn’t really what I had in mind when I thought of THE PUNISHER going to Russia to find a retro virus but hey, what’s to lose!

I’d like to announce that this week sees ALPHA FLIGHT #12 – THE FINAL ISSUE! That is all.

TODAYS SPECIALS ARE…

You’s want special huh? Well how’s this for special not only is it a cool cover but it joins up with five others to make a freakin uber cool cover! Damn skippy NEW AVENGERS #3 COIPEL VARIANT features none other than the fancy art of Oliver Coipel but also by default, a member of the NEW AVENGERS (Codename: Fancy Dans) and this time it’s the turn of the ole canucklehead himself.. WOLVERINE!

We also have the one in Five BLACK PANTHER #1 RIBIC VARIANT…Oh yes! already going for $14.95 on Ebay yours for £4.95. Damn! we treat you so fine!

That’s not all, we‚ve got a veritable tale of two cities as well this week with the CAPCOM SUMMER SPECIAL! We have two exclusives of this baby the SAN DIEGO CONVENTION EDITION #1 and… AND… the WIZARD WORLD CHICAGO EDITION #1! Not only is there all manner of joy to be had from the fact that these are rarer than me getting to work on time but also they’re full of cool Capcom stuff like

Perhaps the most bizarre sounding exclusive this week is METAL GEAR SOLID #1 GRAHAM CRACKERS EXCLUSIVE. What the hell is this Graham Crackers?!? Or who?!? Does this mean that he’s downright wacky or that he’s good for cheese? Especially a nice Somerset Brie. Which is it? And why does he have an exclusive Metal Gear Solid cover? I expect answers and I expect them now! Also issue #5 is out as well this week and is bound to be easily as good as the first four! SHAZAM!

So that’s it for another week folks, see you in seven! Unless I forget…

MATT (TUCS-Cheese & Biscuit! NICE!)

And TOBY Who really Likes Brie! She is one fine Desperate Housewife! (Any site or order problems email me as I always look forward to hearing from you!
